DNR Selects Dozens Of Parcels To Sell Off

State Budget Mandates Agency Land Sales

By

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has identified 82 land parcels, totaling 5,900 acres, that it wants to put up for sale, as ordered under the state budget bill.

The department says the properties they selected might be better managed by county forest programs, have no access to a public road, or are isolated from larger DNR property and don’t contribute much to protecting natural resources or providing outdoor recreation.

The DNR’s Doug Haag said the list has been put together carefully.

“We’re trying to be as conscientious as we can about each individual parcel that we’re considering for sale, and I think you’ll find that the summary recommendations we have reflect that effort on our field staff’s part to make sure we’re taking a really good look at these parcels,” Haag said.

He said the DNR wants to keep 35 other parcels that were considered and study 32 more properties. The DNR Board will review the plan later this month.
