What is it about the millions of acres of forest and lakes between Minnesota and Canada that causes Abbey to geek out about the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness? Each summer, she paddles, portages, and sleeps in a tent on her trips to the wilderness. In her Thursdays at the U lecture, Abbey will help us all appreciate the BWCA, learn how we can each enjoy it on our own terms, and discuss how we can preserve it for future generations.
Abbey Fischer is the Campus Director of UW-Eau Claire – Barron County. She joined the Rice Lake campus in 2016 as chemistry faculty after teaching in Morris, Minnesota, and Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Abbey is an outdoors enthusiast and has taken nearly thirty BWCA trips since 2011 – some by herself, others with her wife, and more recently with their extended family.
