The Choral Arts Society of Southeastern Wisconsin (CAS) will present Say It With Music – The Great American Songbook on Saturday, April 12th 7PM at First Presbyterian Church, 716 College Avenue in Racine. This nostalgic retrospective and reinterpretation of American musical genius will wrap up the CAS’s 38th season of presenting high-quality, innovative choral programs.
Explore the wide-ranging genius of American music that has stood the test of time as the CAS partners with Racine’s own Curt Hanrahan and his band Opus. Saxophonist and educator, Curt Hanrahan performs with groups as varied as his own combos and as large as the Milwaukee Symphony, and he directs the Milwaukee Jazz Orchestra. Revel in music from The Great American Songbook, created by Rodgers and Hammerstein, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hart, and Harold Arlen. From Broadway to the jazz hall, we will delight in some of America’s most memorable tunes—including Over the Rainbow, You’ll Never Walk Alone, Summertime, What A Wonderful World, I Got Rhythm, Georgia On My Mind, and Say it With Music—in arrangements that will fill your heart and bring you joy!
“There are few things more satisfying than the glorious tradition of great American music,” said CAS Mastro James Schatzman. “These familiar, heart-warming tunes presented in wonderful new arrangements will spark memories as well as new appreciation of the music that shaped our country’s experience. This concert will touch your soul and lift your spirits, awaking a new admiration for the joy and wonder of American music. You’ll be humming these tunes for weeks to come!”
The concert also includes the new CAS initiative, Guest Youth Artists, showcasing emerging high school musicians during the pre-concert event, “Speaking of Jazz,” and the post-concert reception. A performance of the new composition by Carthage College’s Margaret Burk, entitled Happy Are Those Who Sing With All Their Heart, will conclude this final concert of the season—a new CAS tradition!
Included with Admission is a pre-concert event from 5:45-6:30PM “Speaking of Jazz” with Guest Young Artists from The Prairie School Jazz Combo, directed by Jamie Breiwick.
