– Stringwood Festival Concerts are going to be terrific this year. Brandon Vamos, cellist of the award winning Pacifica Quartet joins ARTARIA STRING QUARTET in the epic Schubert String Quintet on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Bethlehem Lutheran. We also have the coolest 8’ piece on that program that has us stomping our feet and snapping our fingers: “Dig the Say” by Vijay Iyer, an American composer, pianist, bandleader, producer and writer based in New York City. The New York Times has called him a “social conscience, multimedia collaborator, system builder, rhapsodist, historical thinker and multicultural gateway”. Violinist Frank Almond, formerly concertmaster of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, presents a solo recital with collaborative pianist, John Jensen, featuring the music of Grieg, on Thursday, Aug. 8 at Sons of Norway. Artaria returns to Bethlehem Lutheran on Tuesday, Aug 13 to perform Dvorak’s beloved GM quartet and joining us on “String Circle” by one of today’s hottest composers Kenji Bunch, is former Artaria violist, Reneé Skerik. The title refers to the continuum of history and tradition that string instruments offer us: Appalachian Fiddling, Texas Swing, and musical influences from folk to funk.
