What’s in a Name?
Who or what is behind the names we see around Rice Lake? Join us to hear Nicole speak about her study of Rice Lake’s history!
Muschinske’s quest to learn the ‘who’s who’ of historical Rice Lake, such as Knapp and Stout, became interwoven with her pursuit of history and environmental knowledge at UW-Madison’s Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, where she is studying the relationships between people and the land throughout time. Why is Rice Lake called this when there is no rice? Who are Knapp, Stout and Tainter? Join us for this interesting walk down memory lane!
This and other sessions of the Thursdays at the U lecture series are all held 12:30-1:30 in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall (Ritzinger 234) on the UW-Eau Claire Barron County campus, located at 1800 College Drive in Rice Lake. All are free and open to the public, thanks to financial support from the campus foundation (which is funded by private donations). Neither parking permits nor seating reservations are required. Most talks are livestreamed at www.ricelaketv.com; most are also archived for later viewing at https://barron.uwec.edu/business-community/free-viewing-lecture-series/
