Brown Deer police say three people were killed, including the suspect, and one person was injured during a shooting at an apartment complex in the Milwaukee suburb on Saturday morning.

Brown Deer Police Chief Peter Nimmer said at a press conference late Saturday afternoon that a 26-year-old suspect, who was taken into custody, later died at a local hospital following a shooting at Park Plaza Court apartments.

“We believe the suspect shot himself,” said Nimmer.

Police were called to the apartment complex shortly after 10 a.m. following a report of a “possible victim in the parking lot.”

In an update later on Saturday afternoon, Nimmer said they believe the incident started as a domestic dispute, adding the relationships of all those involved is currently unknown. Police believe the suspect lived in the apartment complex.

“We know at least two knew each other,” he said.

The suspect fired shots at officers from the second floor, but none were hurt although a police car was hit.

No officers on scene returned fire, Nimmer said.

The police chief said a 31-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were among those killed. A 36-year-old man was shot in the leg but is expected to recover. A child at the scene was unharmed and is now with family. Nimmer said the names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of family members.

Nimmer said there is no longer a threat to the community.

Local news outlets reported earlier that police vehicles, ambulances and fire department vehicles had gathered outside the apartment complex and that a Milwaukee County medical examiner had been called to the scene.
