Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s group is spending tens of thousands of dollars to support Democratic candidates in special legislative elections next month.
The National Democratic Redistricting Committee announced Tuesday it will spend $175,000 supporting Caleb Frostman for an open seat in the 1st Senate District and Ann Groves Lloyd for an open seat in the 42nd Assembly District. The money will cover digital and television advertising as well as get-out-the-vote efforts.
Gov. Scott Walker initially refused to call special elections to fill both seats. The NDRC won a court order forcing the governor to schedule the contests.

The elections are set for June 12. Frostman faces Republican state Rep. Andre Jacque. Lloyd faces Republican Jon Plumer.
The winners will have to run again in November.
