Immigration In America: U.S. Attitudes Towards Refugees
Since 1975, more than three million refugees fleeing violence, persecution, or natural disasters have been resettled in the United States. In order to resettle in the United States, refugees have to undergo security screenings from both the U.S. and the United Nations. According to the UN, this process is done abroad and can take up to two years.
In day three of our series looking at immigration in the United States, Alise Coen–Assistant Professor of Political Science at UW-Sheboygan and UW-Manitowoc–joins us to talk about how refugees make it to the U.S. and what awaits them when they arrive.
