A former Milwaukee priest has been sentenced to a year in jail for repeated inappropriate touching of a student he supervised at the Wauwatosa Catholic School.
Robert Marsicek had plead guilty to three counts of fourth-degree sexual assault and molestations that took place between 2007 and 2010. Fourth-degree sexual assault is a misdemeanor that involves nonconsensual sexual touching.
Prosecutors recommended probation for 76-year-old Marsicek. But Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Mark Sanders said he wanted to send a message to other potential abusers. So, late Friday afternoon, Sanders sentenced Marsicek to one year at the Milwaukee County House of Correction.

Peter Isely of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, and a spokesman for the victim’s family, praised the judge.
“The gravity and seriousness of these crimes require prison and jail. The public needs to see these offenders punished,” Isely told news media outside the courtroom.
In courtroom remarks prior to sentencing, Marsicek’s attorney said his client had done wrong but also helped many people during a long career.
The victim, now 16, said she never did anything to the priest, and questioned why he had assaulted her.
