Nearly 1.4 million unregistered voters can expect a postcard from the Wisconsin Election Commission in early October.
Wisconsin is required to send a mailing to voters who are unregistered, but eligible to vote after joining the Electronic Registration Information Center, a multi-state coalition focused on increasing voter registration.
The Commission’s Public Information Officer, Reid Magney, said it’s an attempt to inform eligible voters.

“The purpose of this mailing is to let them know that they may not be registered to vote and really to encourage them to register, if they want, before election day,” Magney said.
Wisconsin offers election day registration, but Magney said the sooner people register the better.
“We know we’re going to get a lot of people coming out to vote Nov. 8,” Magney said. “So the more things that can be done early in terms of updating voter registration, or getting people registered, the shorter the lines at the polling place.”
Magney said people who receive the postcards will be prompted to check their voting eligibility online. Wisconsin is one of 21 states that are part of the effort to boost registration.
Funding for the postcards will come from a private grant and federal funds, Magney said.
