1. Buena Vista Social Club ‘Bruca Manigua live’ Tk 1 5.19

Ry (Cew-der’s) Cooder’s guitarist name helped bring attention to the veteran Cuban son musicians who made up the collective known as the Buena Vista Social Club – now world famous with sounds reminiscent of Duke Ellington’s compositional style that included a sense of hushed romanticism. A previous lost set of the group’s recordings have recently been discovered and distributed. From the 2015 album Lost and Found, comes Bru-ca Ma-ni-gwa, lead by singer Ibrahim Ferrer.

2. Apache Indian “Om Numah Shivaya’ Alb Tk 2 4:25

Apache Indian is the stage name of the reggae DJ Steven Kapur, born into a family of Indian origins, Kapur was born and grew up in Handsworth, West Midlands, home of reggae bands such as Steel Pulse. Kapur performs Om noo-mah Shih-vay-yah – which blends Hindu chants and classical Indian flute sounds with roots reggae.

3. Black Umfolosi ‘Helele Mama Africa’ Alb Tk 10 3.17

Black Um-fo-losi is an A cappella (Imbube) singing and traditional dance group formed in 1982 by a set of school age youngsters who wanted to develop themselves and contribute to their community. 5. Kobo Town ‘Abatina’ CD 1 Tk 1 4:56

Trinidadian/Canadian songwriter Drew Gon-sal-ves, aka Tobo Town, is named after the historic neighborhood in Port-of-Spain where calypso was born amid the boastful, humorous and militant chants of roaming stick-fighters. Situated near the fishermen’s wharf, the area was a site of constant defiance and conflict, a place where sticks and stones, songs and verses clashed with the bayonets and batons of colonial rule. 15. Toumani Diabate ‘Cantelows’ Alb Tk 8 6:57

Toumani Diabate is a Malian kora player. In addition to performing the traditional music of Mali, Diabate has collaborated on a good number of cross-cultural musical project. Featuring the lone voice of the 21 string Kora, Diabate performs Cantelows – a work named after a street in London and dedicated to a friend who gracious provided Diabate with housing when he first arrived in the UK in 1987.

El Naán is a music collective based in the land of Palencia, in the North of Castile, and dressed with a unique approach to Catilian musical tradition featuring jazz, world music and in this case, a touch of Afro-Cuban flavor with an air of wahn-wahn-có, a subgenre of Cuban rumba and a tune entitled Afro-ee-be-ria.
