A new hospital planned for Chippewa Falls is moving forward after receiving approval from the city’s planning commission.
According to Aspirus Health, the commission approved a conditional use permit for construction of the facility after holding a public hearing Monday.
The Wausau-based health system announced plans in November to build the new hospital, which will include an emergency room, inpatient beds and basic lab services.Â

The facility would help fill a health care gap in the region left when Hospital Sisters Health System abruptly closed hospitals in Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire last spring, along with a regional network of clinics.
According to the health care company, Aspirus is working to finalize a purchase agreement for the land and will seek approval from the Chippewa Falls City Council on a developer agreement in the coming weeks.
The new hospital could be operational in as soon as 18 months after the city signs off on the project, according to the statement.
