Madison alder Charles Myadze was charged with eight felonies Monday related to ongoing allegations of abuse.

The charges include three counts of strangulation and suffocation, two counts of attempted burglary of a dwelling, substantial battery, burglary to commit battery, and false imprisonment. Myadze was released after an initial hearing Monday on a signature bond of $500 per count.

The criminal complaint details a history of abuse of one victim that allegedly took place between 2018 and 2021. It references numerous emails the victim sent to herself and Myadze to document the alleged abuse during that time, as well as photographs she took and interviews with a police detective.

According to the complaint, the victim was bruised on her arms, neck, hips and face a number of times. She also told the police detective about instances where she lost consciousness.

The victim told police that she feared Myadze would kill her and that there were times that she isolated herself because of that fear.

“Who knows what he’ll do,” she told police during an interview.

The complaint also details incidents where Myadze allegedly broke into the victim’s home to steal jewelry and gifts he had given her.

The court ordered that Myadze have no contact with the victim, her family and one other person.

Madison District 18 Alder Charles Myadze

Myadze, who represents district 18 on Madison’s north side, has been accused of violence by at least three former partners, spanning from the 1990s to the 2020s. He has faced numerous calls for his resignation, and was formally censured by the council earlier this month.

Myadze could not immediately be reached for an interview, and his lawyer declined to comment on the case.

A status conference for the case is scheduled for Feb. 3.
