Wisconsin Celebrated the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The 43rd Annual “Tribute and Ceremony” is the official state ceremony – the oldest official MLK state celebration in the U.S. The event-themed “One Day” honored Dr. King’s birthday with word and music that commemorated his legacy of service, his pursuit of equal rights for African Americans, and his belief in the power of equality leading to ‘one day’ when all will get to the “promised land.” The memories of those who paid the ultimate price in pursuing Justice, Freedom, and Equality during the Civil Rights Movement were also remembered. The event, broadcast on WPR and PBS Wisconsin featured the Chicago Mass Choir, Latino Arts Mariachi Juvenil Ensemble, First Nation Flutist Frank Montano with guest speaker the Rev. Dr. Marcus Allen, drew hundreds of citizens together in celebration of Dr. King’s ‘dream’ for all.

“Justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love.’ We have much to correct.” –Dr. King
