The New York Jets are moving on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers after just two seasons, the team announced Thursday.

In a statement, new Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn and General Manager Darren Mougey said the team informed the 41-year-old quarterback last week.

“It was important to have this discussion now to provide clarity and enable each of us the proper time to plan for our respective futures,” Glenn and Mougey stated. “We want to thank him for the leadership, passion, and dedication he brought to the organization and wish him success moving forward.”

It’s unclear if Rodgers will retire from the NFL or look to play for another team.

He played in 18 games in his two years in New York. He tore his achilles in the first game of the 2023 season but started every game last year.

He led the Jets to a 5-12 record, missing the playoffs. The Jets also fired their head coach and general manager during the season.

The Green Bay Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets in April 2023. At the time, the team and its fan base had hopes that Rodgers would lead the team to its first Super Bowl title since Super Bowl III in 1969.

Rodgers spent 18 seasons in Green Bay, where he won Super Bowl XLV and four league MVP awards. The California native is expected to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after he retires and becomes eligible.
