The semi-truck was hauling a tanker filled with 5,000 gallons of liquid manure when it collided with a northbound Wisconsin Southern train.
When deputies arrived, officials said the tanker was on its side in a ditch. The trains engine and six of the 22 railroad cars derailed, the sheriff’s office said. One of the rail cars lost a load of plastic pellets when it derailed.
The semi driver killed in the crash was a 66-year-old Kewaskum man, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said the road where the crash occurred is closed while the investigation is underway. Officials say it could be closed for several days.
According to law enforcement, the Wisconsin State Patrol is reconstructing the accident and additional details are not being released at this time.
