Republican Senate candidate Kevin Nicholson says he raised more than $1 million during the second quarter of the year.

Nicholson announced the fundraising numbers Tuesday as a super PAC supporting his GOP rival Leah Vukmir launched a new television ad attacking his conservative credentials.

Nicholson and Vukmir are running in the Republican primary for a chance to take on Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin. Vukmir has not reported her latest fundraising numbers.

Nicholson has raised more than $3.2 million since kicking off his campaign a year ago. His campaign has benefited from deep-pocketed independent groups that have spent more than $9 million on ads either supporting him or attacking Baldwin.

Wisconsin Next PAC, which supports Vukmir, launched a new six-figure television ad Tuesday that slams Nicholson’s past as a Democrat and says he can’t be trusted.
