André E. Phillips has over 35 years of experience in the college admissions profession and is currently the Director of Admissions and Recruitment at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In the Office of Admissions and Recruitment at UW-Madison since 2011, Phillips first served as the Senior Associate Director. He was appointed Director in March 2017 having assumed the Interim role in August 2016. He held previous leadership appointments at the University of Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Mr. Phillips is the chief designer of UW-Madison’s local, national, and international recruitment strategy. He oversees 70 full-time team members who recruit, process, evaluate, and admit each enrolling class of freshman and transfer students. He leads an array of efforts that includes working collaboratively with campus partners, community stakeholders, on and off-campus service organizations, and a cross section of alumni volunteers and supporters on initiatives to attract high ability students from all corners of the state of Wisconsin, the country, and around the world.
Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Phillips attended the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago and received his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University of Chicago. During his higher education career he has traveled extensively within the United States as well as internationally to China, Ecuador, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, in addition to several other countries.
