Dr. Edward G. Shaw

Edward G. Shaw, MD, is dually trained as a physician and a mental health counselor. He was the primary care partner for his wife, Rebecca, diagnosed with early-onset AD at age 54. After a nine-year battle, she passed away last summer. Ed was a practicing radiation oncologist for 23 years and a world-renowned brain tumor expert. In 2010, inspired by Rebecca’s journey, his medical interest shifted to dementia diagnosis and treatment, and he founded the Memory Counseling Program that is part of Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, NC. Ed’s use of the 5 love languages to sustain an emotional connection with Rebecca inspired the premise for Keeping Love Alive as Memories Fade: The 5 Love Languages and the Alzheimer’s Journey.
