Zach Woods recently made his debut as a television creator and director with the Peacock series, IN THE KNOW. Zach co-created the adult animated comedy which THR called, “…silly and funny but also unexpectedly poignant…” alongside Mike Judge and Brandon Gardner. He also stars in the series which he wrote and executive produced, treating audiences “to a voice performance by Woods that is a small, hilarious, somewhat dismaying tour de force…” (NYT). Lauren Caspian (Woods) is NPR’s third most popular host, a well-meaning, hypocritical nimrod who also happens to be a stop motion puppet. Each episode follows the making of an episode of Lauren’s show IN THE KNOW, in which Lauren conducts in-depth interviews with some truly incredible real world human guests. Guests include Kaia Gerber, Ken Burns, Finn Wolfhard, Norah Jones, Tegan and Sara, and Mike Tyson among others. The series was animated by the ShadowMachine team, who recently won an Oscar for Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion PINOCCHIO film.
Recently, Woods starred in two seasons of Apple TV+’s hilarious murder mystery hit series, THE AFTERPARTY alongside Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson and Zoe Chao. Woods appeared in Armando Iannucci’s HBO series AVENUE 5. The series also stars Hugh Laurie and Josh Gad. Prior to AVENUE 5, Zach finished his six-season run of the Emmy nominated and HBO hit comedy SILICON VALLEY as the hilarious ‘Jared.’
Zach made his directorial debut with his short film DAVID, which he co-wrote, starring Will Ferrell, William Jackson Harper and Fred Hechinger. It was the sole selection from the United States in the year’s Cannes Film Festival and was also selected for the Toronto International Film Festival and Telluride Film Festival among others.
Zach previously debuted his second directorial short film BUD on Omeleto. The short film – also co-written by Zach – features incredible performances from Michael Peña and rising star Everly Carganilla.
On the big screen, Zach recently starred in the indie comedy SPIN ME ROUND directed by Jeff Baena. The film was produced by the Duplass Brothers Productions and also stars Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Alessandro Nivola and Molly Shannon. Zach was previously seen in the Fox Searchlight feature DOWNHILL alongside Will Ferrell and Julie Louis-Dreyfus, which released widely on Valentine’s Day 2020 after premiering at Sundance.
Additional film credits include Steven Spielberg’s THE POST, OTHER PEOPLE, GHOSTBUSTERS 3, MASCOTS, IN THE LOOP, DAMSELS IN DISTRESS, HIGH ROAD, and THE HEAT. His first television series feature was as ‘Gabe Lewis’ on NBC’s THE OFFICE. Zach has also had recurring roles on the HBO series VEEP and USA’s PLAYING HOUSE. In addition, he has had guest roles on THE GOOD WIFE, THE LEAGUE, KROLL SHOW, and COMEDY BANG! BANG!. Zach also voiced a role in the animated feature THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE for Warner Brothers.
