Police: 2 Killed At Roundy’s Warehouse In Oconomowoc

An employee at the Roundy’s Distribution Center in Oconomowoc shot and killed two co-workers Tuesday night, a union official said.

The suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a vehicle police chase in Milwaukee County, according to Oconomowoc police. Police have not confirmed to WPR the shooter was an employee.

The two male victims, believed to be in their mid-to-late 40s, both worked at the Roundy’s warehouse for more than two decades, said Thomas Bennett, secretary treasurer with the General Teamsters Local Union No. 200.

Bennett said he knows the identity of the two victims and the alleged shooter, but because authorities have not yet released the names, he wanted to be respectful of the families.

“Each of the individuals involved were hard workers, all they wanted to do was go to work and come home,” Bennett said. “I don’t know what puts a person to the edge to do something of this magnitude, but obviously there was a reason why. I’ll let the police determine that.”

According to the Oconomowoc Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. at the warehouse at 1111 Delafield Road.

The initial 911 call was for a possible industrial accident. When authorities arrived, they located the first victim, who was “pulseless and not breathing.”

A second victim was also found in the same condition, according to police. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the suspect’s vehicle was located in Milwaukee County where a “pursuit” occurred. The suspect’s vehicle crashed. He was pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation will be investigating the shooting at Roundy’s.

Police are working with Roundy’s management to safely get all employees off the premise while the investigation continues.

There are 750 people who work at the Roundy’s distribution center in Oconomowoc. It’s open 24 hours a day and at any one time, there are 150 to 200 people there, Bennett said.

Bennett said he is also working with the Roundy’s corporate office.

“This is a really tragic event, and our hearts are with the families, and our thoughts are with all of the workers,” Bennett said. “This will impact every worker out there in some fashion.”
