Groups push senators to help the working class

By

Some community groups say they want Wisconsin’s senators, both Republican Ron Johnson and Democrat Herb Kohl, to support tax breaks and other measures to help working-class people in Wisconsin.

Opponents of extending the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans are calling on state politicians to support what they say are the 98 percent of Americans who most need the tax relief. Those tax breaks are set to expire at the end of the year, unless extended by an act of Congress.

Jennifer Epps-Addison is with Citizen Action of Wisconsin. She says that it’s important for the federal government to balance out wealth and support legislation that favors economic relief for the working and middle class, “What we want to do is to encourage folks to talk to Sen. Johnson and talk to Sen. Kohl and tell them that we expect common sense solutions for working families. We want to see an increase in the minimum wage, we want the rich to pay their fair share so we can refund education, jobs and healthcare.”

Epps-Addision is also among those who support a piece of legislation that will soon be up for debate in the Senate. She says the Bring Jobs Home Act provides incentives to companies that bring their businesses back to communities in the U.S.
