Hillary Clinton delegates from Wisconsin said they were moved on Tuesday night when she officially became the first woman nominated by a major political party to run for president.

U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin announced Wisconsin’s votes during Tuesday night’s roll call at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, first for Clinton’s former rival Bernie Sanders and then for Clinton.

“We cast 47 votes for the next president of the United States, Secretary Hillary Clinton,” Baldwin said.

Speaking shortly after the votes were tallied, Clinton delegate Ann Jacobs of Milwaukee described the event as one of those moments that she’d remember. Jacobs said Clinton’s achievement was historic.

“As women have grown and become accepted into every echelon of our communities of our lives, there’s been this one that nobody’s ever gotten to. And Hillary Clinton said in 2008 that she may not have broken the glass ceiling, but she put an awful lot of breaks in the glass. And today she broke through,” Jacobs said.

Most of Wisconsin’s Sanders delegates cheered Tuesday night as Clinton officially became the Democratic Party’s nominee.

Sanders delegate Karla Stoebig stood shoulder to shoulder with Clinton delegates as Wisconsin cast its votes. Stoebig said she admired the way Sanders called for a unanimous ballot to nominate Clinton. She said she is prepared to support her party’s nominee.

“In the end, we are working with a two-party system and Hillary Clinton is more than capable. And the alternative is … I don’t even want to talk about. So, I am certainly excited to continue to work for positive progress in the Democratic Party and in Wisconsin,” Stoebig said.

Not everybody cheered, though. After Clinton won the nomination, many Sanders delegates left the convention hall to occupy the adjacent media tent in an act of protest and others protested on the perimeter of the convention grounds.

Clinton will address the full convention Thursday night.
