17th Senate District, 87th Assembly District Each Saw Tight Races On Aug. 12

The Government Accountability Board has ordered a recount of votes in the 87th Assembly District Republican primary election, and says it will order a recount on Monday morning in the 17 Senate District Democratic primary election.

In the 87th Assembly District in northern Wisconsin, Medford City Council member Michael Bub requested a recount after finishing behind business owner James Edming by 17 votes. Business owner Shirl Labarre also finished in a close third, trailing Edming by 113 votes.

As of Saturday, the GAB said that most of the counties participating in the recount have reported their new vote totals.

In the 17th Senate District in southwest Wisconsin, Democrat Pat Bomhack requested a recount after finishing two votes behind Ernie Wittwer.

State Sen. Joe Leibham had the option of requesting a recount in the Republican primary in the 6th Congressional District, but he announced on Friday that he would instead concede to his opponent Sen. Glenn Grothman.
