Speaker Robin Vos says Assembly Republicans “will probably agree” with a plan that would repeal Wisconsin’s prevailing wage law for local construction projects.

Some Republican State Senators have said they won’t vote for the budget unless it includes such a repeal. Speaking on Wisconsin Public Radio’s “Joy Cardin Show” Monday morning, Vos said that was likely to happen.

“I think it’s very possible that the Assembly will end up going along with the language that’s been offered by the Senate that would repeal the prevailing wage on local governments, but allow it to remain at a higher level using some federal standards at the state level,” said Vos.

The state’s prevailing wage law sets minimum salaries for construction workers on public projects.

Vos had previously thrown his support behind a more modest plan that would scale back the wage. Democrats oppose both options, saying they’ll lead to lower wages in Wisconsin.
