Gov. Scott Walker is distancing himself from some remarks made by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos criticizing Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry for making an appearance with President Barack Obama.

Lasry had greeted the president when he visited the city to campaign on behalf of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke. Vos said said the meeting of the two Democrats was unwise, given that the Bucks will be seeking financial help from Republican legislators to build a new arena in Milwaukee.

Gov. Scott Walker, however, said he doesn’t mind that Lasry met with Obama.

“Issues like that, I really don’t care one way or the other,” he said. “What I’m going to look at is the merits it provides to Milwaukee and to the state as a whole.”

Walker said that some other Milwaukee business leaders also want the new arena, and that the support crosses the political spectrum. He said he’s looking for a way to keep the basketball team in Milwaukee that’s also responsible to the rest of Wisconsin.
