Federal prosecutors have informed two former guards at Wisconsin’s troubled youth prison that they are targets of an investigation into excessive use of force.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Wisconsin sent letters to two former employees at the Lincoln Hills School for Boys notifying them that they were under scrutiny.

The letters are the first concrete sign prosecutors are moving toward charges with an investigation that began nearly three years ago. A grand jury is scheduled to take up the case Wednesday behind closed doors.

“I did absolutely nothing wrong. I did my job,” one of the targets said in a brief interview Saturday.

The Journal Sentinel isn’t identifying the guards, whose names haven’t been released publicly, because they have not been indicted.

The investigation stems from a 2014 incident where a teenage inmate’s arm was injured.
