A community-based vaccination clinic will open in Rock County next week.

The clinic will be part of a partnership with AMI Expeditionary Healthcare. In the press release announcing the clinic, Gov. Tony Evers said AMI will be helping expand access to the vaccine across the state by operating community-based vaccination clinics. This will be their first one.

“Wisconsinites are working together to stop the spread of COVID-19 and put this pandemic behind us. This partnership with AMI is going to help us take another step in the right direction,” Evers said in the press release. “Our top priority is to get folks vaccinated and to continue to keep Wisconsinites healthy and safe, and that’s going to take a team effort not only with partners like AMI, but with every Wisconsinite practicing social distancing and wearing masks and doing their part to help prevent the spread in the meantime.”

The state Department of Health Services selected Rock County to be the site of the first clinic “after careful consideration and identifying local health needs.” They plan to open the clinic Tuesday, Feb. 16.

The clinic will be able to vaccinate 250 people daily. That could increase based on vaccine supply.

There’s currently a shortage of vaccine supply. A large swath of Wisconsin’s population is now eligible to receive the vaccine, but the state isn’t receiving enough doses from the federal government to vaccinate all those that are eligible.

According to the press release, six to 10 additional community-based vaccination clinics will open around Wisconsin as more doses of the vaccine become available.
