The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner took place over the weekend, and for the second year in a row, President Trump declined to attend. Instead, he held a rally in Michigan where he made it clear that he was happy not to be at the event. Aside from the usual hand-wringing about the Washington press rubbing shoulders a bit too closely with the politicians it covers, there was controversy over comedian Michelle Wolf’s routine and debate over whether the event should even continue in the future. We talk about this year’s dinner and what it tells us about the state of journalism and politics today.
