Advocate Says Opioid Crackdown Hurting People With Chronic Pain
Opioid-related addiction and overdose deaths have been a central part of the public health conversation for the last few years. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Opioids were involved in 47,600 deaths in 2017.” And, guidelines put in place by the CDC have made getting prescription opioids more difficult. But for people with chronic pain, a lack of access to these drugs can have a significant impact on their daily lives. We speak to attorney and an advocate Kate Nicholson about what she thinks can be done to address the opioid crisis while caring for people in pain.
