GOP Lawmakers Propose Allowing Concealed Weapons In Public University Buildings
A new bill by two Republican lawmakers would allow concealed weapons in public university buildings. It would revoke an exception made to Wisconsin’s concealed carry law allowing universities to enact bans inside of campus buildings. Concealed carry is already allowed outside on campus property.
The proposal comes two weeks after a gunman killed nine people at an Oregon community college. Supporters say the law will allow students to defend themselves from crime or in a mass shooting situation. Critics say more guns could increase violence in a place full of young people and alcohol.
