As autumn turns the leaves to gold and red, Perrin’s thoughts turn to roads, trees and preparations for the loss of light. November brings some of the only time a part-time farmer can get any rest. In December, “the locking” begins as ponds freeze, trees turn bare and the animals become scarce.
