Dr. Sloper is amused and surprised by Catherine’s refusal to give Morris up, but he still refuses to give his consent. Aunt Lavinia meets again with Morris, but this time she tells him that he should not marry Catherine. Morris tells her that Catherine has already agreed, but Lavinia says that Catherine is so in love with him that she would forgive him if he were to change his mind.
