Earlier this month, President Trump signed an executive order requiring government agencies to review their welfare programs from Medicaid to food stamps, and to find ways to tighten those programs and gives states more control over how to implement them. The Trump administration has also been considering a plan that would allow states to require certain recipients of food stamps to undergo drug testing. Here in Wisconsin, Governor Scott Walker has signed a bevy of bills into law that tighten welfare requirements in the state. Among other things, the bills mandate drug testing for certain people applying for food stamps and public housing. This hour, we’ll discuss the changing state of welfare policy, nationally and in Wisconsin.
