Each of us use our sense of touch to communicate, express and receive platonic love and intimacy. However, the New York Times reports that fear and stigma is often associated with nonsexual touch among middle-aged, American men. Our guest explains the benefits of platonic, physical affection and explores the historical, social and cultural shifts of men touching each other. He also explains how this affects children, gender identity, familial relationships and society in general.
Are you a man who shares the discomfort of touching another male in a friendly way? Do you think nonsexual touch among men should be normalized and socially acceptable? Email ideas@wpr.org, post on the Ideas Network Facebook page, or tweet @wprmornings. You can share your story live on the air. Just call 800-642-1234 during the show.
