A recent homework assignment for a fourth grade class at a Wauwatosa elementary school is sparking outrage. The assignment asked students to “give three ‘good’ reasons for slavery and three bad reasons.” While the school issued an apology, the principal released a statement arguing the exercise was intended to spark debate in class. We hear from the mother who shared the assignment online and a history professor about the significance of understanding and teaching slavery to our kids.
