Ada Deer grew up in poverty on the Menominee Reservation in Wisconsin. She went on to become the first female leader of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the first Native American woman to run for Congress. We speak with Ada Deer about her life’s work ensuring sovereignty for all Tribal Nations.
