Big Game in Wisconsin

Air Date:
Heard On Route 51

We’ll talk about the status of big game in Wisconsin, as we look at changing population numbers for deer, wolves and bears, and the confirmed sightings of cougars in the state. Hunters are voicing complaints about an apparent decline in deer numbers at Conservation Congress meetings being held this week. New data also indicates a rapid increase in the numbers of wolves and bears, with a corresponding expansion of their range into southern Wisconsin. Guests are: deer and bear expert Tim Van Deelen, professor of wildlife ecology at UW Madison; wolf expert Adrian Wydeven, conservation biologist with the DNR in Park Falls; and cougar expert Eric Anderson, professor of wildlife ecology at UW Stevens Point.
