This Thursday, Route 51 welcomes Pat and Tom Burg to talk about the history of Merrill and the railroads that served North Central Wisconsin. Pat Burg is treasurer of the Merrill Historical Society, which is working to build a new museum to be known as the Merrill History and Culture Center. Pat’s husband, Tom Burg, is the author of a new book titled Route of the North Woods Hiawatha: the Milwaukee Road’s Wisconsin Valley Line. Discussion will focus on how the railroads linked Merrill and other Wisconsin River Valley cities, serving a vital role for economic growth, and the expansion of population and cultural diversity.
