Wisconsin Public Radio’s Route 51 welcomes Holocaust witness and World War Two veteran, John Regnier of Stevens Point, author of Denying the Deniers, A Soldier’s Intersection with the Holocaust. Regnier served in a medical battalion supporting General George S. Patton’s 3rd Army, and was among the first to witness the atrocities at the Nazi slave labor camp in Ohrdruf, near Buchenwald. Regnier’s photographs document the reality of the Holocaust, and his story condemns and rebuts those who deny it took place. We’ll talk to Regnier about his wartime experiences in the liberation of Europe, and ask him why books like his are still necessary 70 years after the fall of Nazi Germany.
