Minnesota always claims Paul Bunyan, but did Wisconsin loggers really invent America’s best-known folkhero? This week, Route 51 will explore the roots of the Paul Bunyan legend with Michael Edmonds, author of the beautifully illustrated new book on the legendary lumberman, “Out of the Northwoods: The Many Lives of Paul Bunyan.” We’ll discuss how the tall tales moved from wilderness logging camp stoves into print, and why publication changed them forever. Edmonds is an expert on researching archival material, and is the deputy administrator of the Library and Archives at the Wisconsin Historical Society.
