This Thursday, October 1st at 10 am, Wisconsin Public Radio’s Route 51 features Harry Boyte, the keynote speaker for the 20th Conference on the Small City and Regional Community, which takes place next Tuesday and Wednesday at UW-Marathon County in Wausau.
Host Glen Moberg will ask Boyte about his belief that small cities can be “centers of a democratic renaissance,” and about strategies for increasing citizen participation in local government. Boyte is the Head of the Center for Democracy and Citizenship at Augsburg College, and Senior Fellow at the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs. He is the author of nine books, and his writings have appeared in more than 100 publications, including the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. In the 1960s Boyte worked for the Rev. Martin Luther King as a field secretary with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
The Route 51 program will also feature Eric Giordano of the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service, which is sponsoring the conference.
