On January 4 at 10 a.m. Wisconsin Public Radio’s Route 51 looks at the future of sulfide mining in Wisconsin. The state has passed SB 395, the bill ending the mining moratorium and makes possible new mines for gold, silver, copper and other non-ferrous metals. Host Glen Moberg will talk with Rep. Rob Hutton (R-Brookfield), who sponsored the bill and views mining as a potential source of jobs and revenue; Raj Shukla, executive director of the River Alliance of Wisconsin, who is concerned about the impact of sulfide mines on Wisconsin’s watersheds; and Kurt Gibbs, Marathon County Board Chair, who is drawing up regulations to govern potential new sulfide mines in the county.
