The untimely passing of Xavier Bell on Oct. 26 is a loss being felt by many in the Twin Ports. This week, “Simply Superior” remembers the Lake Nebagamon resident who was well-known throughout the region as a tireless champion of social justice. Those who knew him best — fellow community activists, family members and friends — share their memories in excerpts from his memorial service.
Bell, whose community engagement and leadership spanned more than a decade, died after experiencing cardiac arrest. He impacted many through his work with youth ministry, the NAACP, Community Action Duluth and the Family Freedom Center, of which he was executive director.
Also on this week’s show, host Robin Washington meets with Reader Weekly publisher Bob Boone at the recently renovated West Theater. Boone, who was first bitten by the movie theater bug years ago as an usher at the Palace Theater in Superior, has spent the last three years painstakingly restoring the art deco jewel of West Duluth to its former glory.
