Just ahead of the premiere of WPR’s two new networks — “WPR News” and “WPR Music” — “Simply Superior” airs its final show this week. The regional news and features will continue, however, in new “Morning Edition” segments produced by host Robin Washington, beginning in June. WPR Director Sarah Ashworth joins Washington to discuss the changes and new networks .

Also, prolific songwriter Bruce Nelson of Solon Springs has had viral hits on his YouTube channel, but he’s likely best known to WPR listeners as the composer and performer of the “Simply Superior” theme song. Nelson joins Washington to share some of his other work, from satire to serious, as well as the theme in its entirety.

Plus: Rick Lubbers, executive editor of the Duluth News Tribune, and WPR’s Superior-based Reporter Danielle Kaeding review the region’s top news stories during the show’s five-year run.
