The 20-year-plus effort to return passenger rail service between the Twin Cities and the Twin Ports is closer to reality, with nearly $195 million approved last month by the Minnesota Legislature. That amount leverages matching federal funds, meaning the Northern Lights Express may begin running in as little as three years, longtime booster Ken Buehler explains to “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington. One item yet to be determined: The exact location of the Superior station, a major terminal on the route.
Also, his roots are in Mississippi (which he spells without the double letters), San Francisco and the Twin Ports, all of which he taps for his brand of country and folk music that earned the best songwriting award at Duluth’s Dylan Fest last month. Mississippi Mike Wolf joins Washington to share his music and geography, as well as praise for perennial Dylan contest winner, Shane Nelson of Superior.
