After 132 years as an Ashland institution, known for its specialty in environmental education, Northland College may close its doors at the end of this academic year. In a statement this week, administrators said the private liberal arts college needs to raise $12 million by April 3 to keep its doors open beyond the end of the school year in May. Northland President Chadwick Dayton discusses the decision with “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington. Also joining the program is Inside Higher Ed Reporter Josh Moody, who covers college closings nationwide, and Lynn Olson of South Range, whose son is a sophomore geology major and member of the school’s soccer team.
Plus: The Iron Range Tourism Bureau called the trio “Musicians that resonate the soul of the region through their music.” Morningbird has distilled that repertoire into their upcoming first album, “Echoes in the Meadow,” selections of which they share with Washington ahead of a weekend of concerts in Duluth and on the Range.
