During the lockdowns at the height of the pandemic, the region’s universities curtailed concerts and travel, with student musicians forced to learn their instruments remotely. Now, they’re back on the road – with the University of Wisconsin-Superior and the University of Minnesota Duluth both dispatching ensembles internationally at exactly the same time. Professor Erin Aldridge and violin student Lakota Villmayor join “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington to present highlights of the UW-Superior trip this month to Ghana, while UM-Duluth Professor Rudy Perrault features selections from his school’s chamber orchestra concert in Trinidad.
Also, Salt Awareness Week in Superior concludes today, but that doesn’t mean it’s OK to resume tossing snow melt on every inch of driveway. Wisconsin Salt Wise Coordinator Allison Madison and the city of Superior’s Water Resources Specialist Megan Högfeldt discuss how to minimize salt contamination in our waterways while dealing with winter snow and ice.
