Spring in the Northland inevitably means flooding as streams and creeks overflow with falling rain and melting snow. This week on “Simply Superior” host Robin Washington talks with experts from Duluth and Superior about how each city prepares for the seasonal surge of water. Plus, the music of Florence Price performed by two St. Scholastica faculty members.
Megan Högfeldt, city of Superior Water Resources Specialist, and Ryan Granlund, Utility Programs Coordinator for the city of Duluth, join Washington to discuss how each municipality prepares based on its unique topography and infrastructure, and what residents can do to be part of the solution to seasonal water problems.
In the show’s second segment, Washington is joined by soprano Jennifer Lien and pianist Nicholas Susi, both from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, for conversation and a repertoire of works by Price. The first African American woman whose symphonic work was performed by a major symphony orchestra, Price is finally receiving renown nearly 70 years after her death.
