A grassroots watchdog group has analyzed data from the Duluth and Superior police departments detailing the incidence of the use of force in encounters involving African Americans and Native Americans. Host Robin Washington talks with them about their findings, and also with police officials, this week on “Simply Superior”. Plus, a musical performance from Breanne Marie and the Front Porch Sinners.
The Law Enforcement Accountability Network, or LEAN, is a recently formed alliance of community advocacy groups. LEAN conducted an analysis of police use of force incidents after facilitating a three-month conversation series and survey of community stakeholders about criminal justice issues which they say identified racial profiling as the most significant issue needing to be addressed by Twin Ports law enforcement. Superior Police Chief Nick Alexander will join the discussion to offer the department’s analysis of the data.
Also on this week’s show, tune in for music and conversation with Breanna Marie and the Front Porch Sinners, a Twin Ports ensemble from both sides of the bay. Describing their sound as “Great Lakes country music,” the group has just released a new album, “Juniper.”
